Paddle for Life: Kalani Vierra’s 100-Mile Mission Around Kauai

Paddle for Life: One Man, 100 Miles, One Mission

Ocean safety doesn’t happen by accident. It takes training, funding, and people willing to put in the work — on the beach and on the water.

Kalani Vierra is doing his part in a big way. This July 30 through August 1, the Kauai Ocean Safety Bureau Chief is paddling 100 miles around the island of Kauai to raise awareness and support for the Hawaiian Lifeguard Association — the organization he leads.

This isn’t a celebrity fundraiser. The man running Kauai’s ocean safety operation is getting in a canoe and doing the work himself.

Why It Matters

Hawaii’s ocean is not forgiving. Strong currents, shorebreak, conditions that can shift faster than most people expect — every year people underestimate what they’re getting into. Even well-known town breaks like Queens in Waikiki can turn serious when a set rolls through and catches swimmers off guard.

The Hawaiian Lifeguard Association runs education programs, junior lifeguard training, and water safety resources designed to close that gap. Drowning prevention, real skills, real reach — for locals and visitors alike.

Vierra doesn’t just support that mission from behind a desk. He’s paddling 100 miles of open Pacific to prove it.

How to Support

The Hawaiian Lifeguard Association is accepting donations directly. If you’ve ever surfed Hawaii, swam in Hawaii, or brought your family to a beach here — this one’s worth supporting.
